How To Remove Vinyl Lettering
By NMFS in Automotive | 0 comments
It’s finally come time for a change, you’ve decided to update the look of your vinyl lettering or window decals, and you need to remove the old vinyl to make way for the new design. Unlike magnetic car signs, you can’t simply peel off the vinyl and use it again later on. Here are some tips for vinyl removal:
Glass: Glass is probably the easiest surface from which to remove vinyl or any other adhesive material. All you need is a razorblade scraper.
Painted and Metallic Surfaces: Painted surfaces, like walls in a home, or metallic surfaces, like vehicles, require a different approach. If your vinyl is good quality to start with and was installed properly, the only thing you should need is a hand held hairdryer. Heating the vinyl loosens the adhesive and the sticker lifts easily away by hand. Remember not to over heat the surface and keep the heat source moving at all times. As you remove the vinyl, fold the sticker over itself rather than pick off pieces of it. Once the vinyl is removed, a little bit of rubbing alcohol or a citrus-based adhesive remover helps clean up any leftover adhesive on the surface.
Unless your vinyl is removable to begin with, you won’t be able to save the lettering for use again later on. The removal process will destroy the vinyl.
