How Credit Reports Factor in When Applying for Credit Cards

There are a lot of factors that credit card companies consider when someone applies for a credit card. One of the main deciding factors for obtaining credit cards (tarjetas de credito) is the applicant’s credit score. It is common practice for credit card companies to run a credit report on someone applying for a credit card. Not only can a poor credit score mean the difference between being accepted for a credit card or not, but it can also mean a higher interest rate.

A poor credit score can also mean the difference between an individual receiving a free credit card (tarjeta de credito gratis)or a credit card with an annual fee. The better the credit score, the better chance an individual will have at finding a credit card with no annual fee and a lower interest rate.

While considering a person’s credit score, credit card companies also look to see if the applicant has bank accounts (cuentas bancarias). In order for an individual to receive a credit card, they have to be in good standing financially, as well as open bank accounts. A bank account means that an individual is financially responsible and will be able to make payments on the credit card.
